This is another student piece I wrote back in 1996. El vito is a traditional dance song from Andalusia dating back to the 16th century. Although El Vito is not really flamenco, guitarists such as Paco de Lucia, Sabicas and many others have included versions on their "flamenco” albums.
It was first arranged for guitar by Garcia Lorca (1898-1936), and later by the Spanish classical guitarist and composer Regino Sainz de la Maza y Ruiz (1896-1981). It is also choreographed as a flamenco dance. This is not at all surprising, since it can be counted in buleria compas (starting on 12), or simply 123-123-12-12-12. |
